Vivi Dianne Cheng

The local modeling scene is no stranger to model and aspiring actress, Vivi Dianne Cheng. It’s no surprise that this Sabah-born girl with her distinctive sharp features and slim physique was crowned 2nd runner-up for Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant 2010, and has won various awards in other pageants. Vivi has been spotted in many commercials, dramas, movies and print ads, including being the face of VOUCH Magazine #12.

Q: Tell us a little bit about your modeling career.

A: When I was 18, I started doing some part-time magazine shooting while pursuing my studies in Singapore. This was where I found my interest and slowly, it led me to take on other roles such as starring in TVCs, music videos and dramas.

DON_1159Q: Between modeling and acting, which one would you prefer?

A: I used to priorities modeling, but nowadays , I find that I prefer shooting for TVCs and short films as it is more challenging and I get to learn more. I like the pace of shooting short films better where I can push the boundaries and experiment with different roles.

Q: Out of all these commercials, films and movies that you’ve worked on, is there a particular one that left an impression on you?

A: Not really. I enjoy all my work just as much. The role that I find the most distinctive is probably a short episode that I shot with Singapore Mediacorp artistes, Jessica Liu and Pierre Png.

Q: Besides music, what are some of your hobbies and interests?

A: I love playing the piano, something I’ve learnt from the age of 10. I have an ATCL Diploma from Trinity and am now working hard for my LTCL Diploma. Lately, I’ve also been more conscious about my health so I’ve started going to the gym and experimenting new, healthy recipes at home!

Q: How would you describe your personal style when it comes to fashion?

A: (smiles) I would say my style is more simple and easy-going. I prefer clothes that are plain-coloured and easy to mix & match, so that I can wear it more than once.

Q: Since you are from Sabah, do you think there are any significant differences between the fashion scene in Johor and Sabah?

A: Yes! Contrary to popular belief, the people in Sabah are quite fashionable as well, but they would dress up more grandly than over here. However, Johoreans are definitely faster to pick up on fashion trends as we live closer to Singapore and are influenced by the trends there.

DON_1229Q: We wish you the best of luck! Let’s talk a little about the magazine. Prior to working with VOUCH Magazine, have you heard of us and what are your thoughts about the magazine?

A: Yes, I’ve heard of VOUCH Magazine since 3 years ago as I had some friends who did shooting with VOUCH. When VOUCH approached me to collaborate with them, I was so happy! I’d definitely work with VOUCH again as the crew is really nice and friendly to work with! Being a free copy magazine that is more focused on fashion, it truly stands out and brings the message across easily to readers in JB. There are actually many undiscovered talents in JB, I’m glad that VOUCH is there as a platform for them to showcase their talents!

Q: Lastly, what do you wish to say to our readers?

A: I’ve seen the magazine improve by leaps and bounds these three years, and I know it will continue to grow so I hope that readers can know more about me and other talented individuals in Johor Bahru through VOUCH!
