Message From REHDA Chairman

Interior design is an admirable profession involving the art and science of spatial utilization, enhancing the interior and exterior of a building to create a functional, pleasing and healthy environment for the users. Gone are the days when interior decoration was done by homemakers or business owners or ad hoc extended service of furniture makers to provide a functional property.

Interior design profession has expanded exponential in parallel with the property boom in the recent times and has contributed positively to the country’s economy. Not limiting to creation of comfortable and aesthetic homes, interior design has become an imperative part of branding and advertising implementation of businesses such as hotels, offices, retails and eateries. The stakeholders of interior design profession has also broadened with complex network of local and overseas builders, engineers, technicians, building material suppliers, manufacturers and designers of furniture and fabric and effect specialists. Creative and innovation interior designers have also introduced interior design from abroad to integrate with the local culture for a more interesting and robust living environment.

I am enthusiastic to observe that interior design profession has grown in strength and has become an integral part of property development. I envisage that the interior design industry will be motivated to become more regulated to uphold the integrity of the services and a way to move forward to further raise the standard of the professional practice and quality of service.

I congratulate Johor Interior Designers’ Association in its effort to provide a platform for co-operation, networking and sharing of knowledge among the interior designers and to encourage future aspiring interior designers to take interior design profession to greater heights in Malaysia.
